Among aluminum profile system manufacturers, Aluprof occupies a position that is difficult to confuse with any other. It is neither a startup that grew out of a small family workshop nor a subsidiary of a global metallurgical corporation. The Polish company from Bielsko-Biała has been operating since 1961 — and over this time, it has evolved from a state-owned factory of the Soviet era into one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of aluminum systems, with an annual turnover of approximately €586 million and deliveries to 55 countries.
Against the backdrop of other Polish and Eastern European manufacturers, Aluprof stands out for several reasons: Passive House Institute certifications for various systems — window, facade, and even roller shutter — its own accredited testing laboratory with an agreement with one of Europe’s leading testing institutes, and a product portfolio that in certain areas approaches the depth of German premium brands.
Company History
Production of aluminum elements began as early as 1961. In 1965, the enterprise was named «Budoplast,» in 1972 it moved to a new site, and in 1973 it was renamed «Metalplast-Bielsko» — it was from this name that the MB abbreviation for all subsequent systems originated. Under this name, the plant operated during the Soviet era: producing profiles and hardware for the construction industry, gradually building up its technological base.
In the early 1990s, after privatization, the company gained freedom of action — and it made full use of it. In 1996–1997, capital was merged with the Kęty S.A. group — one of Poland’s largest industrial holdings working with aluminum. In 1997, a separate company was established in Opole for roller shutter production. In 2006, Kęty S.A. acquired 100% of Aluprof’s shares, definitively integrating it into the holding’s structure.
It is precisely this affiliation with Kęty S.A. that determines today’s scale of capabilities. The holding includes 25 companies that collectively process approximately 83,000 tons of aluminum raw material annually. Aluprof is the key segment for the design and production of architectural systems.
Today, the company has six production facilities. Showrooms are open in Bielsko-Biała and Warsaw. More than 2,700 employees, over 2,600 regular customers, and 40% of sales are exports. Representative offices and distribution centers operate in Germany, the United Kingdom, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, Ukraine, and the USA.
Manufacturing
The company controls the key stages of production in-house: system design, profile extrusion, anodizing, powder coating, and assembly. This eliminates dependence on external suppliers at critical stages and enables direct quality control from development to finished profile.
For powder coating, the company applies QUALICOAT technology — a European quality standard verified by independent audit. This means that coating resistance to UV, atmospheric exposure, and mechanical loads is confirmed not by internal control but by external verification. Additionally, the company holds a QUALICOAT SEASIDE certificate, confirming coating durability in coastal zones with high corrosive loads. Anodized profiles are available with additional finishing: grinding and shot-blast effects for special architectural requirements.
The quality management system is certified to ISO 9001, and the environmental management system to ISO 14001. Both certificates are issued by the German organization TÜV NORD — an independent European standard, not merely compliance with local norms.
The company provides partners with specialized software for calculation and configuration of structures. This embeds Aluprof into the window manufacturer’s workflow: not just profile delivery, but tools for working with it.
Market Position
In terms of positioning, Aluprof sits between Western European premium brands and manufacturers in the Eastern European price segment — but at the upper end of that space. The company holds several Passive House Institute certificates, its own testing laboratory with an agreement with IFT Rosenheim, completed projects on three continents, and a stable presence in the UK and US markets — all of which are atypical for manufacturers positioning themselves as an «affordable alternative.»
On the Polish market, Aluprof is among the leaders and is present annually on 250+ new construction projects — from car dealerships and banks to stadiums and airports. The Polish market remains the primary base, but approximately 40% of sales go to other countries.
For Central and Western Europe, the key points of presence are the United Kingdom and Germany, where Aluprof actively works on large facade projects and with architectural firms. A separate direction is the US market, where the company supplies solutions for premium commercial projects.
Window Systems
Aluprof’s window lineup is built around the MB family — it is by this historical name, derived from the enterprise’s former name Metalplast-Bielsko, that all systems are designated. They scale by installation depth and thermal insulation level: from simple non-thermal profiles for partitions to multi-chamber systems with Passive House certification.
MB-45, MB-60E — base series
MB-45 is a non-thermal system. Used for interior partitions, lightweight display windows, and retail spaces where thermal insulation is not a requirement. MB-60E is a basic thermally broken system for windows and doors in residential and commercial projects. Both series form the lower price tier of the lineup.
MB-70 and MB-79N — the working range
MB-70 is one of the most widely used systems in Polish construction. A thermally broken profile with a wide choice of opening types, compatible with European hardware. Covers most tasks in residential and commercial mid-market construction.
MB-79N is a newer and technically more advanced system. Thermal transmittance Uw from 0.62 W/(m²·K) — a level allowing compliance with stringent European energy efficiency requirements for buildings. Air permeability class 4, water tightness up to 4800 Pa, wind load resistance C5. Compatible with MB-SR50N facade systems — allowing opening windows to be integrated directly into the curtain wall without switching to other profiles.
MB-86N and MB-86 Aero — the world’s first with aerogel
MB-86N is a system that became a world first: it was in this system that Aluprof first used aerogel as an insulator for an aluminum window profile. Aerogel is a material with extremely low thermal conductivity, consisting of 99% air. Its use inside the thermal break allows a significant reduction in heat transfer through the profile without increasing the width of the insert. Uw from 0.62 W/(m²·K), high-strength profiles designed for large-format and heavy structures.
The MB-86 Aero version with aerogel insulation provides even higher thermal resistance — this is the flagship of the series before the transition to the MB-104 Passive class.
MB-104 Passive — the Passive House certified flagship
MB-104 Passive is a system for passive and energy-efficient construction. Multi-chamber profiles with polyamide thermal break, accepting IGUs up to 81 mm thick — meaning triple and even quadruple glazing. Thermal transmittance Uw from 0.53 W/(m²·K). This is one of the best figures among aluminum window systems overall.
The MB-104 Passive SI and MB-104 Passive Aero systems received Passive House Institute certification in Darmstadt — independent German confirmation of compliance with the passive house standard. Versions are available with a concealed sash (from the outside, the window appears as a monolithic glazed surface), with corner glazing without a vertical profile at the corner, and with low thresholds for balcony doors.
Thus, Aluprof’s window lineup covers all key segments: from budget non-thermal partitions to systems with record thermal insulation, certified for passive buildings. At the same time, each system is structurally compatible with the company’s facade solutions, allowing a unified profile logic to be used across the entire project.
Sliding Systems
MB-59S and MB-77HS — lift-and-slide doors
MB-59S is the core lift-and-slide system in the lineup. A thermally broken profile for access to terraces and patios in heated buildings. Used in residential and low-rise construction. MB-77HS is a version with enhanced thermal insulation for projects with stricter energy efficiency requirements, including passive houses.
MB-86 FOLDLINE HD — accordion folding system
MB-86 FOLDLINE HD is a folding door system for maximum opening clearance. Maximum sash weight — 120 kg, maximum height — 3 meters, maximum sash width — 1.2 meters. Structurally compatible with MB-86 profiles: the same connection methods, shared seals and accessories — simplifying work for window manufacturers who have already mastered MB-86.
Three types of threshold solutions are available: classic threshold, with edge sealing, and a convenient low-threshold option. Glazing range from 14 to 61.5 mm — single and double-pane, including acoustic and burglar-resistant IGUs.
Aluprof’s sliding and folding systems cover the range from standard terrace doors to warm, large-format portals at passive house level, while maintaining the principle of structural compatibility with window series.
Facade Systems
MB-SR50N — flagship and best-selling system
MB-SR50N is a mullion-transom facade system and the undisputed sales leader in the lineup. It was used in the construction of the National Stadium in Warsaw and the modern terminal of Kraków Airport — two projects that themselves serve as industry benchmarks for Polish construction. The system is used in leading shopping centers and office buildings across the country.
Available in several configurations. Base MB-SR50N — Uf above 0.6 W/(m²·K), air permeability AE 1200, water tightness RE 1200, passed the Florida Building Code test for hurricane wind resistance. MB-SR50N HI — enhanced thermal insulation with Uf 0.85 W/(m²·K), two-component thermal break. MB-SR50N HI+ — highest thermal insulation with Uf from 0.59 W/(m²·K), Passive House Institute Class A+ certification, accepts double- and triple-pane IGUs.
Aesthetic versions: MB-SR50N PL — decorative covers accenting horizontal or vertical facade lines; MB-SR50N EFEKT — semi-structural execution with glass joints, creating the effect of a continuous glass surface from the outside. Fire-rated versions MB-SR50N EI and MB-SR50N EI EFEKT — classes EI 30 and EI 60. Version MB-SR50N A — for installation on steel or timber load-bearing structures.
MB-MT50N — the next generation of facade system
A new mullion-transom system with a fundamentally different profile design. Uf from 0.55 W/(m²·K) — the best figure among Aluprof mullion-transom facades, surpassed only by special modular constructions. The system has received Passive House Institute certification in Darmstadt.
A notable structural feature: a special open groove in the profile eliminates the need for additional drilling during installation — the screw goes into a pre-formed seating. This significantly accelerates on-site installation. A three-step cascade drainage system removes water through any type of corner joint.
IGU range from 20 to 64 mm. Full compatibility with Aluprof window and sliding systems, including MB-SR50N OW HI+ systems and lift-and-slide doors.
MB-TT50 — unitized facade
Full-height floor-to-floor panels are assembled at the factory and delivered to the site as ready-made elements. This reduces on-site installation time and shifts a significant portion of operations to factory conditions with better quality control. The system is certified by the Passive House Institute — a rarity even among unitized facade systems.
Aluprof’s facade lineup covers all key glazing formats — from standard mullion-transom curtain walls to unitized panels and semi-structural solutions with a continuous glass effect.
At the same time, it offers several levels of thermal insulation, including passive-house-certified variants, as well as fire-rated modifications, allowing projects of any complexity to be realized within a single system.
Fire-Rated Systems
Aluprof offers comprehensive fire-rated solutions for both facades and interior partitions — without the need to switch to other suppliers.
MB-SR50N EI and MB-SR50N EI EFEKT — fire-rated versions of the flagship facade system. Fire resistance classes EI 30 and EI 60. The architect can use a single profile grid across the entire building, designating the necessary sections in fire-rated execution without a visual break. MB-SR50N EI EFEKT — a semi-structural version with glass joints and fire-rated execution simultaneously.
MB-118EI — an interior partition system with fire resistance class EI 120. This is a separate class of protection, significantly exceeding the standard EI 60 — applied where regulations or the design require 120 minutes of fire resistance.
Additional Products
MB-HARMONY OFFICE and MB-45/MB-80 — interior partition systems.
MB-HARMONY OFFICE is a solution for office spaces with acoustic insulation Rw 48 dB and height up to 3600 mm. A distinct feature: acoustic characteristics are confirmed by measurements, not just calculations. MB-45 and MB-80 are more universal partition systems for a wide range of interior applications.
Roller shutter systems SP and SP-E
Roller shutter systems are a type of blind consisting of a curtain that moves along guides perpendicular to the opening, fully clearing it. In the closed position, they lock securely.
External roller shutters with Passive House Institute certification. This is a rare case: a roller shutter system with PHI certification means that in the closed position, it makes a measurable contribution to the thermal performance of the entire building envelope. Applied together with Aluprof window systems on passive construction projects.
Garage doors, industrial doors, and other systems
They are manufactured at the plant in Opole. Cover applications for residential buildings, commercial, and warehouse facilities.
Mosquito nets and solar shading — additional product lines allowing comprehensive project supply from a single supplier.
With this set of additional solutions, the customer can obtain the majority of necessary components for a project — from curtain walls and windows to roller shutters, doors, and interior partitions — within a single supplier framework, simplifying project management and reducing the risks of system incompatibility.
Testing Laboratories
Aluprof operates its own accredited testing laboratory — a rarity even among large aluminum system manufacturers. The laboratory has an agreement with IFT Rosenheim — one of Europe’s most authoritative testing institutes for building envelopes. This means that a number of certificates are issued with IFT marking — a recognizable guarantee for European clients and designers.
The laboratory tests air and water permeability, wind load resistance, thermal resistance, acoustic performance, burglar resistance, and hardware durability. For fire-rated systems, fire tests are conducted with verification of declared EI classes. For roller shutter systems — separate checks for compliance with passive house requirements.
The presence of an in-house laboratory allows testing not only serial products but also custom structural solutions for non-standard projects — before production begins.
The Secret Behind Aluprof's Pricing
Aluprof is notably less expensive than comparable technical alternatives — and this is the result of several factors, not simplification of the systems.
First, membership in a Polish industrial holding provides access to aluminum raw materials and production capacities on terms that independent companies cannot match.
Second, Aluprof operates primarily on a B2B model, supplying profile systems to window and facade manufacturers and construction companies, rather than selling finished products through a proprietary retail network. This model reduces retail infrastructure costs and allows focus on large-volume supply.
